01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Cooked to order over 30 to 40 minutes, the freshly roasted Kuroge Wagyu beef is the undisputed signature dish at Kyoto Diner. Wonderfully moist and tender, it can be enjoyed with either a light salt, pepper, and lemon seasoning or a rich parsley garlic butter sauce, each bringing out a different dimension of the beef. Another standout, the Kuroge Wagyu bistecca, arrives cooked to a delicate blush pink, spotlighting the concentrated savor of the lean meat whenever you crave a hearty, straightforward cut.

While waiting for the meat dishes to roast, it is easy to settle in over a sizzling shrimp ajillo fragrant with garlic, mopping up the infused olive oil with crusty baguette alongside a fresh glass. Pouring options range from draft sparkling and house reds or whites pulled straight from kegs to a broad selection of bottled wines lining the shelves. Pasta plates such as flat ribbons coated in rich Bolognese meat sauce and house-made pistachio gelato round out the menu, making it just as satisfying to drop in for a few à la carte bites as it is to settle down for a complete coursed meal.

The wood-accented interior features both counter seating and tables, opening from 15:00 on weekdays and from 12:00 on weekends to accommodate late-afternoon pours through to evening dining. It serves just as well for a casual drop-in glass while exploring Nishiki Market and Karasuma as it does for an unhurried dinner booked in advance with a course highlighting the kitchen's greatest hits.
